Community-Led School Advocacy

Together for Decatur Schools is a community-led organization dedicated to promoting open, accountable governance and meaningful public involvement in our school system. We work to ensure that decisions about Decatur’s schools are transparent, equitable, and reflective of the diverse voices and values of our city.

We believe that accountable leadership and an engaged community create the conditions where every student can learn, belong, and thrive. Strong public schools are built not only by institutions, but by the people they serve—families, educators, neighbors, and students who care deeply about Decatur’s future.

Who we are

We are a parent- and community-run 501(c)(4) civic organization. We began as a grassroots effort in fall 2025, born out of the urgent need to advocate to keep all of Decatur’s K-2 schools open and address concerns about the process regarding the plan to build a new $23 million ECLC.  Through that advocacy process, a collective of parents and community members realized the opportunity to engage with the CSD administration and Board to further transparency, communication and fiscal responsibility regarding decisions impacting the future and success of our district.

Our role is to serve as a resource hub and support network, building relationships across educators, the administration, parents and community members to drive collaborative, transparent decision making in service of the collective mission of CSD and the community - “to inspire and enable student growth through meaningful and engaging learning experiences supported by highly qualified and caring educators in a safe and inviting environment.” (Source)
